A Wonderful Evening!

  • April 5, 2018

What a delight to the senses! Entering Waterloo North Mennonite Church to attend the Mennonite and Brethren Marriage Encounter Banquet, attendees probably wondered what to take in first. One could hear the band getting tuned up, arousing anticipation of good entertainment. Peeping through the lighted, tulle-draped arch one could see the lovely tables set with gleaming flatware, valentine napkins, attractive programs and vases of red and white carnations. Entering the dining room, the smell of roast beef let us know that Bellzys were hard at work to provide the delicious meal they usually serve.

Part of the good feeling is knowing that attending the banquet helps make it possible for couples to attend Marriage Encounter weekends whether they can afford it or not. When finances are limited it puts pressure on the marriage relationship, so this important fund-raiser provides pleasure on many levels.

Marg Colmer, chair of the M.E. board welcomed the guests and even though it was a full house, it didn’t take long until everyone was enjoying the scrumptious meal. One could observe people connecting with old friends during this time. These connections just enhanced the pleasure of the meal in such a romantic setting.

After a short break Claire and Andrew Tweddle and Barry and Denise Bender imparted their reminiscence of their M.E. weekends and encouraged others to attend. Some attendees enjoyed these testimonies so much they wished there had been more. Don Taylor and Stand Firm then entertained for the next portion of the evening.

There remained, then, an opportunity to leave a donation to further the work of Marriage Encounter, and a draw for door prizes donated by corporate sponsors for the occasion. The evening drew to a close leaving everyone with a warm glow and a desire to return.
